Just Do Something Coaching

Goal achievement starts with learning to Just Do Something.

Have you ever wondered why people get stuck in a pattern of failure? Perhaps failure is too strong of a word, perhaps we can call it stagnation. Everyday I talk to people who are stuck in jobs they do not like or in relationships that are not fulfilling. Other people complain about not having enough money or not being as healthy as they want be.

It seems that people are too comfortable in their current situation to make a change to improve their life or business. This reluctance to change can be seen in all areas of life, in businesses, and in government.  We would rather accept the statuesque then to make improvements, even when we do not like what we are today.

I was listening to talk radio today and people were talking about health care and how more studies had to be conducted before changes could be made.  One person said we have already studied this 3 times in the last 10 years and no changes have been made. Another program talked about safety recommendations that had been made from an accident inquiry for over 25 years that have not been implemented by government. These examples from today show how society as a whole resists change.

When it comes to coaching; getting a person to take the first step is key. The first step towards a defined goal gets people started. People tend to over think what needs to be done and this makes the change look much larger than it needs to be. Taking even a single small action towards a goal is progress. The process of change does not have to be daunting, when you break down each step into manageable actions.

Whether you are in government, business or just want to make a personal change in your life, it all begins when you decide to JUST DO SOMETHING. Action is the name of the game when it comes to making change and improvements in your life. As Wayne Gretzky says “You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.” If you do not take the shot towards making positive chance in your life you will never improve.

When I coach people I always start off with getting them to take some form of action towards their goal as quickly as I can.  Once we identify a goal, break it down into manageable steps. Then break down each of those steps into manageable actions. Start by doing one of those actions as quickly as you can.

Completing that first action may be all that is required for you to tackle the next action, and then the next action, until one step towards your goal is complete. Rinse and repeat for each of the steps until you are making positive progress towards your goal.

When you look at it like this, things looks very simple and in my experience they can be this simple.  Setting a SMART goal is important because unless your goal is specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time bond you will not know how close you are to reaching it, or even when you have reach it. Working with a coach, who follows a successful and repeatable goal achievement process, is key to moving quickly towards positive success.

I often want to tell people Just Do Something to get you started.  You will see that more study and research is not the answer … action is the answer. The sooner you do something towards your goal the quicker you will achieve that goal.  If you need help with getting started then reach out to us to get started in a successful goal achievement program.
